Thyroid Health

When your labs say normal but your body says otherwise.

The Functional Medicine Approach for Thyroid Health

Maybe you’re tired in a way sleep doesn’t fix. You’re cold when others aren’t. Your hair is thinning, your weight won’t move, and your thinking feels slower than it used to.

You’ve had your thyroid tested. You were told it looks normal.  Or you’ve been diagnosed, you take your medication, and you still don’t feel like yourself.

If that’s you, the question isn’t only “Is my thyroid working?”

It’s “What is my thyroid responding to?”

The thyroid doesn’t work alone. It takes signals from the brain, depends on the liver and gut to activate its hormone, and answers to blood sugar, stress load, nourishment, and the immune system. A TSH in range may not reflect how much active thyroid hormone is reaching your cells.

When those systems are under strain, thyroid function often slows to match. That isn’t failure. It may be the body conserving energy under conditions it reads as unsafe.

In my work, thyroid health follows the same order as everything else: regulate first, then repair. Steady blood sugar, adequate fuel, sleep, and a calmer nervous system come before anything more targeted. Thyroid medication decisions always stay with your prescriber.
